The Route 6 Heritage Communities is an initiative from the state to promote the entire length of the Route 6 corridor.
It is the goal of the Route 6 Corporation to have at least one communities in each of the eleven counties it crosses to
work for and achieve this designation. The focus is an effort to preserve, enhance and promote the transportation
heritage of one of the nation's first transcontinental highways and to sustain and enhance the small rural communities linked
by the highway. To know more about PA Route 6 Association go to www.paroute6.com. At a January 11, 2010 meeting the consultant Rick Truscello from
the EADS group presented the group with maps and details showing many of the highlights, and aspects, of the
Waymart Community as a heritage corridor partner.
Meeting to
discuss highlights were Terri Dennison, executive director of the PA Route 6 Corporation; Donna Labar, executive
director of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce; Jack Millard, Mayor of Waymart; Kate Feissner, NE PA Alliance Government
Services Specialist; Alan Baranski, NE PA Alliance Board and Wayamart Area Historical members; Jane Varcoe, President; Barbara
Boguski; Jade Golo and Jim VanArtsdalen from the Leaping Rabbit Bed & Breakfast; Alberta Correll; Peggy & Chris Ashman

In recognition of the unique position played by the communities and small towns along Route 6, and the reality that
the viability and sustainability of these communities impact Route 6 as a heritage tourism resource, the implementation of
the Pennsylvania Route 6 Heritage Communities Program is an effort to maintain and enhance these
communities.
